ah, valentines day.the day for celebrating universal love and chocolate. for this year's valentines day, i received a 'festive' e-card from our good friends PETA. i use the term festive loosely. the e-card included a video entitled 'Chew on this', which counted down the reasons of becoming a vegetarian. reasons 1 and 2 were because eating meat causes heart disease (which starts at a young age), and a vegetarian diet reverses heart disease. this i can understand. shockingly, reason number 3 was because "eating meat makes you fat". call me crazy, but should this really be number 3? not because its barbaric or morally wrong, but because it makes you fat?! this video was made in hopes that it's viewers would think twice about vegetarianism. people who would stop eating meat because it makes you fat would also do it, assumingly, because of a diet. chances of these people stumbling across this video whilst searching for the latest diet are very slim. are we to believe that you cant be healthy and in shape if you are not a vegetarian? not shockingly, this video was made by an american company. the video proceeded to show short clips of numerous animals trapped in small cages, pigs and cows hanging from their feet getting their throats cut waiting until they bleed to death (which could take hours and many tries of hitting a major arttery) and baby chicks getting their beaks severed off. but that comes later because being fat is far worse of a problem.
Happy Valentines day, PETA.
